About Lesson

To give guidance is to help an individual understand himself, his needs and his environment. It is basically pointing him to the right direction. It helps in decision making and serves as a preventive measure.

Counseling in summary has to do with providing a talk therapy. It provides specialized assistance and serves as a remedy to a situation.

A course in Guidance and Counseling will qualify one to work in both public and private schools, become career counselors, social workers, community workers, mental health practitioners, among others. They can also opt to further their studies in a related field. The program can also serve as a stepping stone for those interested in pursuing further studies in counseling, related fields or to be able to guide youths in their sphere of influence (religious places, neighbourhood, family, etc).

School counselors work with students individually or in groups to help them address a range of issues, including academic concerns, social interactions, emotional regulation, behavioral problems, and career planning. They may provide psycho education, emotional support, and referrals to outside resources as needed. They also collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school personnel to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

In addition to providing direct services to students, school counselors may also engage in program development, advocacy, and consultation activities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of school counseling services. Ultimately, the goal of school guidance and counseling is to promote student success and well-being.
